Floating floors are generally used for impact sound insulation, e.g. between dwellings in a block of flats. They can also be used for thermal insulation, e.g. of ground floor slabs. Floating floors are not normally used where both sound and thermal insulation are required because of the different physical properties required for a resilient layer and for thermal insulation.
