External wall insulation (EWI) can be installed over most forms of construction, including framed structures. Rail fixed systems vary with system manufacturer. They may have vertical and/ or horizontal rails, base boards to take insulation and render fixings, and a drained cavity. Where a mechanically fixed rail system is used, the condition of the building fabric is not critical provided the substrate into which the fasteners are anchored is capable of sustaining the design loads.
